Vietnam moves to provide free education in public school system
VOV.VN - The Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee on February 28 decided to waive all tuition fees for students from preschool to high school in the public school system nationwide, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Politburo made the decision after examining the Government’s report on financial balancing capabilities during and after the streamlining of the political system’s organizational structure under the Politburo’s Resolution No. 18.
This policy will take effect from the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Previously, several localities had already implemented the tuition-free policy for students in the public school system.
The People’s Council of Ho Chi Minh City approved a resolution to waive tuition fees for all students in State-owned schools from preschool and high school in the city, starting from the 2025-2026 school year.
Similarly, Hai Phong City continues to implement a policy of supporting 100% tuition fees for students from preschool to high school according to an existing resolution approved by the municipal People’s Council.
The nationwide tuition waiver is expected to reduce financial burdens on families, especially low-income households, to ensure that all children have the opportunity to attend school without economic barriers.
As education is identified as the foundation of sustainable development, such a policy demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment to investing in the younger generation in order to generate high-quality human resources to meet the demands of national industrialization and modernization.
This policy also aligns with global educational trends and promotes international integration as many countries, particularly developed ones, have already implemented free public education at the primary and secondary levels.
