Vietnam-Japan teenager ambassador exchange opens in Japan

An exchange of Vietnam-Japan teenager ambassadors took place in Japan on January 17, gathering 16 Vietnamese students from the Viet Duc (Vietnam-Germany) High School in Hanoi and 16 Japanese students from the Yokkaichi City high school in Mie prefecture.

The event was co-organised by the AEON 1% Club Foundation and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan. This was the third edition, after the first and the second held in 2007 and 2013.

Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Charge d’Affaires in Japan Nguyen Truong Son acknowledged AEON’s contributions to the Vietnam – Japan ties as well as to the development of Vietnam.

He expected the young participants to enhance mutual understanding and help strengthen friendship between the two nations.

Starting in 1990, the AEON 1% Club Foundation’s Teenage Ambassadors programme is an exchange programme for high school students in Japan and foreign countries.

It aims to provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of each other's histories and cultures and form friendships, via activities like courtesy visits to embassies and cultural heritage sites, attendance of school lectures, and homestays.

Founded in 1989, the AEON 1% Club Foundation has been operating based on 1% of the group’s pre-tax profits. In Vietnam, the foundation helped establish a scholarship fund for university students, build 30 primary schools in Hue, and carried out a tree planting projects in Hanoi and Hue.
