Vietnam hands over two internationally wanted fugitives at request of US, China
VOV.VN - The Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with relevant units, has arrested and handed over two internationally wanted fugitives at the request of the United States and China, in accordance with regulations and international cooperation principles.
The first case involves Chen Lu (born 1993, Chinese national), wanted on a charge of weapons smuggling. Investigators determined Lu entered Vietnam in 2019, lived and worked in southern Binh Duong province, and later moved between locations to evade detection.
Chen Lu was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City on March 11, 2026. After procedures were completed, the person was handed over to Chinese police on March 18 via the Huu Nghi international border gate.
The second case involves Quoc Bao Viet Le (born 2004, US national), wanted on a charge of murder at the request of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Le entered Vietnam in 2025, traveled between Vietnam and Cambodia, and stayed at multiple locations to avoid detection.
Quoc Bao Viet Le was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City on January 12, 2026. After confirming the person had not violated Vietnamese law, he was handed over to the US side at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on January 21, 2026. He was then escorted to the US.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the arrests and handovers were carried out safely and in line with regulations, meeting external affairs requirements. The US and China expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s cooperation in verifying, apprehending and handing over the fugitives.
