Chinese fugitive on international wanted list arrested in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of An Giang province in collaboration with Phu Quoc Special Zone Police have apprehended a Chinese fugitive on the international wanted list.
Zhang Zheng, 50, was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Public Security Bureau of Ganyu district, Lianyungang city, China.
At approximately 2:00 PM on July 9, the joint task force located and detained Zhang while he was hiding in Bai Vong residential area, Phu Quoc Special Zone.
At the time of arrest, the fugitive was found in possession of forged identity documents, which he had been using to conceal his identity and evade law enforcement.
The police conducted the arrest in accordance with Vietnamese legal procedures. The suspect is currently being held in custody pending further verification.
Authorities are completing the necessary documentation to transfer Zhang to the Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security for extradition procedures, in line with Vietnamese law and international treaties to which Vietnam is a party.
The arrest underscores the proactive and determined efforts of Vietnamese police in combating transnational crime, contributing to national security and public safety.
