Vietnam attends Global Call to ClimateScanner in New York

VOV.VN - Auditor General of the State Audit Office of Vietnam Ngo Van Tuan attended the Global Call to ClimateScanner at the United Nations headquarters in New York on March 25-26 co-hosted by the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

The ClimateScanner is an initiative put forward by the Federal Court of Accounts as Chair of INTOSAI, in which Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) around the world will promote a global assessment of government actions related to climate change under three axes: governance, public policies, and finance. This initiative is being conducted through the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (INTOSAI WGEA).

The two-day meeting focuses on various topics including INTOSAI’s initiatives on climate change; ClimateScanner Initiative; climate governance assessment; assessment of climate change mitigation actions; climate finance and resources; information on national climate action; and deployment of the ClimateScanner Initiative.

On March 25, participating SAIs were instructed on how to use the ClimateScanner tool in each country to conduct assessments and record results. The above results will be presented at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) at the end of 2024.

Auditor General Ngo Van Tuan highlighted Vietnam’s efforts in developing and promulgating national guidelines, policies and strategies to effectively respond to the impact of climate change and implement international commitments aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

He affirmed that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of INTOSAI and the Governing Board of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the 2021-2024 period. It is actively implementing the Hanoi Declaration on “Environmental Auditing for Sustainable Development” adopted in 2018.

Over the past years, the State Audit of Vietnam has carried out many audits including those linked to environmental protection and climate change response that are of great public concern, he said.
