Vietnam and Singapore share top honours at VIMC 2025

VOV.VN - Hosts Vietnam and visitors Singapore jointly won the overall first prize at the 2025 Vietnam International Mathematics Competition (VIMC) held in Da Nang from August 15–18.

The Vietnamese team delivered an impressive performance, earning 18 individual awards, including 6 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

Mai Quang Huy, a representative of the VIMC 2025 judging panel, noted that this year’s exam was more challenging than previous editions, covering a wide range of mathematical fields. He said that the highlights were not only accurate solutions but also creative thinking

“Many problems were approached from multiple perspectives, demonstrating the students’ flexible and innovative thinking,” he said at the closing ceremony on August 18.

Taking the floor, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Anh Tuan stated with 553 students from 30 countries and territories, the competition created a lively, transparent, and friendly atmosphere.

“The participants competed fairly and honestly, showcasing talent and creativity, leaving a strong impression on international peers and the people of Da Nang. I believe that each student will take home not only competition results but also international friendships and unforgettable experiences in this hospitable city,” he said.

According to organisers, the competition serves not only as a platform to challenge mathematical talent but also as a cultural experience, fostering friendships and inspiring a passion for knowledge among young participants.

The closing ceremony also marked the handover of the hosting flag for IMC 2026 to Mongolia, reaffirming the rotation system and the enduring vitality of the competition, which connects young mathematicians worldwide.

The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) rotates among member countries and is open to outstanding middle school students from over 40 countries and territories. With its scale, prestige, and quality, IMC is considered one of the world’s leading intellectual arenas for young mathematicians today.
