Tet reunion, trade union market held for workers in Ho Chi Minh City

More than 30,000 workers and trade union members on January 31 took part in the “Tet Reunion” programme combined with the “Trade Union Tet Market – Spring 2026” in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event was organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026 and in celebration of the successful 14th National Party Congress, towards the 96th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930–2026).

The Trade Union Tet Market – Spring 2026 features 120 booths offering discounts of 10–30% or more, helping workers reduce Tet expenses. Products include essential goods such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, meat and agricultural produce, alongside Tet items like processed pork rolls, candied fruits, melon seeds, gift baskets, decorations, clothing and cosmetics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, VGCL President Nguyen Dinh Khang noted that despite numerous challenges in 2025, Vietnam’s economy recorded positive results, with GDP growth estimated at over 8%, continued economic expansion, and per capita GDP surpassing US$5,000. He stressed that these achievements bear the significant imprint of workers and trade union members nationwide.

He affirmed that caring for workers’ livelihoods, ensuring social welfare and creating conditions for them to work with peace of mind is an increasingly urgent task. Trade unions at all levels have consistently accompanied workers as a reliable support, safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, especially during Tet, while rolling out coordinated support activities under the motto that all workers should enjoy a joyful Tet.

Alongside the programme, other trade union-branded initiatives are being held nationwide, including “Trade Union Flights,” “Trade Union Trains – Spring 2026,” cultural activities and transport services bringing workers home for Tet.

This year, on Tet occasion, more than 12 million workers and their family members are expected to benefit from trade union support programmes, with Ho Chi Minh City facing particularly high demands due to its large workforce.
