US Justice Department provides anti-timber trafficking training in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Attorneys from the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the United States Department of Justice, in cooperation with the Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Protection Department, kicked off a training workshop in Hanoi on March 4 for Vietnamese government officials on countering illegal timber trafficking.
The workshop will last until March 7 and is part of a wider US-Vietnam law enforcement capacity building collaboration event happening in Hanoi.
This technical assistance workshop is the first in a series of workshops and discussions with Vietnam’s forestry, industry and non-governmental stakeholders, under the US-Vietnam Agreement to foster a more collaborative approach to combatting the illegal timber trade.
In addition to the Justice Department, the collaboration event includes participants from the US Trade Representative, US Departments of Agriculture, Interior and Homeland Security, and the US Embassy. Vietnam government officials and industry and other organizational stakeholders are also participating in the event.
As part of the US – Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, both leaders underscored the importance of deepening law enforcement and security cooperation.
