Unexploded 250kg wartime bomb safely detonated in Nghe An
VOV.VN - Military engineers in central Nghe An province have safely disposed of an unexploded 250-kilogram bomb left over from the war, with no casualties or damage to equipment reported.
The disposal operation was carried out on the morning of February 11 in Xieng Huong village, Tuong Duong Commune, by the engineering unit under the Nghe An Provincial Military Command.
Earlier, at midday on February 7, local authorities received a report from the family of Nguyen Van Viet in Ang village, Tuong Duong Commune, after a suspicious object was uncovered during excavation work for a house foundation. Initial observations showed the object measured about 40 centimetres in diameter and 140 centimetres in length.
Subsequent verification by the Tuong Duong Commune Military Command confirmed the object was a highly dangerous bomb. Identified as an MK82, the device was found about 3.5 metres underground, measuring roughly 40 centimetres in diameter and 140 centimetres in length, weighing approximately 250 kilograms, with its detonator still intact.
Identified as unexploded ordnance left from the war, the bomb led military forces to evacuate residents and livestock from the surrounding area, install warning signs and assign personnel to guard the site. The device was later rendered safe and disposed of without incident.
