Two new imported cases push national tally to 1,109

VOV.VN - A Vietnamese woman and an Indian expert have become Vietnam's latest COVID-19 patients, taking the overall number of coronavirus infections to 1,109, the Health Ministry reported on October 11.

The Indian male patient, 48, entered Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on flight 6E9471. His second test result on October 10 returned positive for the novel coronavirus at the Dong Nai Center for Disease Control.

The Vietnamese patient, 33, entered Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh province from London on flight VN0054. Her test result at the Center for Disease Control of Hai Duong province was positive for nCoV on October 10.

Both have been sent to hospitals for quarantine and treatment.

With the new infections, the nation’s total COVID-19 cases climbed to 1,109, of which 691 are locally transmitted cases, and 418 cases are imported and placed into isolation immediately upon arrival.

There are more than 15,880 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hit regions are being quarantined nationwide, including over 280 at hospitals, and the remainder at concentrated quarantine establishments and at home.

Among the active patients in treatment, 4 tested negative for SAR-CoV-2 once, 1 twice and 16 three times.

Notably, as many 1,024 patients have successfully recovered from the virus, while the death toll remained unchanged at 35.

The nation has gone 39 days without recording a local case of COVID-19.
