Traffic accidents down significantly during 9-day Lunar New Year holiday
VOV.VN - A total of 445 traffic accidents have occurred nationwide, resulting in 209 fatalities and 373 injuries during the 9-day Lunar New Year 2025 holiday lasting from January 25 to February 2, said the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security.
Compared to the Lunar New Year 2024 holiday, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 38%, fatalities dropped by nearly 38%, and injuries were also significantly reduced.
Notably, road traffic accidents accounted for 442 cases, leaving 207 dead and 372 injured, down by 257 cases, 124 fatalities, and 232 injuries in comparison with the same Lunar New Year holiday last year.
This is a positive sign, indicating that efforts to ensure traffic safety during the holiday period have been effective.
The 9-day holiday period saw local traffic police forces deploy 25,556 task force units to conduct 32,783 patrols along the roads. .
Authorities detected and handled 55,842 traffic violations, revoked 2,985 driving licenses, and deducted points from 7,035 licenses. They also seized 428 cars and 20,782 motorcycles.
Traffic police handled 17,149 cases of drink-driving, accounting for 30.71% of total traffic safety violations and representing a decrease of 20,365 cases compared to the same period last year.
For speed violations, authorities dealt with 13,296 cases, making up 23.81% of total violations. This marks a decrease of 10,905 cases from to the same period last year.
