Traffic accidents claim 17 lives on first day of Lunar New Year 2025
VOV.VN - Some 56 traffic accidents occurred nationwide on January 29, the first day of the Lunar New Year, resulting in 17 fatalities and 45 injuries, reported the Traffic Police Department.
The figures represent decreases of 18 accidents, 23 fewer deaths and 28 fewer injuries compared to the first day of the Lunar New Year 2024, said the department.
The traffic police inspected and handled 3,980 violations, impounding 34 cars, 1,335 motorcycles, and 20 other vehicles. They also revoked 115 driving licenses and deducted points from 493 others. The most common violations were driving under the influence of alcohol, with 967 cases, followed by speeding violations (963 cases), overloading (4 cases), carrying more passengers than allowed (18 cases), and drug-related offenses (10 cases).
According to the traffic police, overall traffic safety and order were maintained, with smooth traffic flow. The police were deployed to ensure safety and order, conducting patrols on key routes and areas.
Vietnamese people are enjoying a traditional Lunar New Year holiday that lasts nine days from January 25 to February 2. The first four days of the holiday period (January 25 – 28) saw 202 traffic accidents happen across the country, killing 95 people and injuring 162.
