Temperature drops to 10 in Sa Pa tourist resort

VOV.VN - Temperature in the tourist resort of Sa Pa in Lao Cai, northern Vietnam, suddenly fell to 10 degrees Celsius September 19 after the first cold spell of the year struck the region.

This is the first time such a low temperature has been recorded in Sa Pa compared to the same time since 1957, according to the Lao Cai Hydro-Meteorological Station.

The cold spell, the first of its kind this year, swept across the northern region September 17, causing the temperature to plummet 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. Together with heavy rain, many people in Lao Cai felt the chill when they went out.

Northern provinces have just welcomed the arrival of autumn for less than a month and such a low temperature shows weather this autumn and winter will be quite abnormal compared to previous years, said Luu Minh Hai, Director of the Lao Cai Hydro-meteorology Station.

Hai added that from the beginning of the autumn up to now, Sa Pa’s temperature has continuously fallen and broken many records ever set. September 15 for example saw temperature in the region tumble to 10.5 degrees Celsius.

However, the cold spell is weakening in the coming days and the temperature in Sa Pa is unlikely to drop further.

According to meteorologists, this years’ winter will come earlier and temperature will be lower than previous years.
