Tam Anh Hospital sets Asia record in AI-assisted neurosurgery
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City-based Tam Anh General Hospital has been recognised by the Asia Book of Records and the Vietnam Book of Records for performing the highest number of AI-assisted cranial and spinal surgeries in Vietnam and Asia.
Between 2023 and 2025, the hospital successfully completed 208 procedures using the Modus V Synaptive system, which is currently the only AI-assisted image-guided neurosurgical robotic system in Vietnam, thereby establishing simultaneous national and continental records.
The dual recognition marks a significant milestone in Vietnam’s advancement in high-precision neurosurgery and reflects the country’s growing capacity to master cutting-edge medical technologies.
The Modus V Synaptive integrates multiple high-end technologies, including an advanced 3D image-guided navigation system; VR-based preoperative surgical planning and simulation; a robotic arm module for microsurgical precision; and a high-definition visualization system with an expanded surgical field
The platform has been applied in complex cranial and spinal procedures, including brain tumors, nerve sheath tumors, emergency surgery for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), cerebral vascular malformations, spinal canal tumors, spinal cord vascular lesions, and herniated intervertebral discs.
According to clinical data released by the hospital, the AI-assisted system has achieved a surgical success rate exceeding 95%, while reducing intraoperative blood loss by 79% and shortening postoperative recovery time by approximately 40%. The technology also enables maximal preservation of motor and speech functions.
At the certification ceremony, Professor Academician Hoang Quang Thuan, chairman of the Founding Council of the Vietnam Book of Records, emphasised that the achievement represents not only institutional excellence but also a broader milestone for Vietnam’s healthcare sector in its integration into global medical innovation.
He highlighted that the record carries both scientific-technological significance and humanitarian value, demonstrating that Vietnam’s private healthcare system is emerging as a pioneer in digital transformation and advanced surgical technologies.
“I believe this milestone will serve as a foundation for further medical breakthroughs, contributing to elevating Vietnam’s position in regional and global medicine,” he stated.
In 2025, the hospital was also recognised by the Asia Book of Records as the first hospital in Asia to operate an ISO 5-standard embryology laboratory under the “lab-in-lab” model for gamete manipulation and embryo culture.
