Ho Chi Minh City launches SEA’s most advanced “super robot” for complex surgeries
VOV.VN - To celebrate the National Reunification Day April 30, Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has officially launched the Da Vinci Xi Robot, the most advanced in Southeast Asia, marking a new milestone in the southern city's journey to bring high-tech healthcare to a global standard.

"The Da Vinci Xi Robot is an extension of the surgeon’s hands, enabling surgeries that were once considered impossible," said Associate Professor, MD, PhD Vu Le Chuyen, Director of the Urology - Nephrology - Andrology Center at Tam Anh General Hospital, who has successfully performed over 200 surgeries using the Da Vinci Robot.
Developed by Intuitive Surgical (USA), the Da Vinci Xi Robot is the fourth generation of the Da Vinci surgical robot line, equipped with cutting-edge technology that surpasses previous versions, bringing a revolution in minimally invasive surgery with unmatched accuracy, flexibility, and efficiency.
The Da Vinci Xi Robot supports over 120 types of complex surgeries, ranging from prostatectomy, kidney tumor removal, lung tumor resection, and fibroid surgery, to colorectal cancer, thyroid tumors, and mediastinal tumors, covering specialties such as urology, gynecology, gastroenterology, ENT, thoracic, cardiology, and oncology.

Compared to its predecessor (Da Vinci Si – third generation, launched in 2009), the Da Vinci Xi Robot features a touchscreen interface, allowing surgeons to select the surgical area and optimal approach, tailoring each surgery to the patient's specific anatomy or tumor location. The robot’s arms are slimmer than the Si version, allowing for easier handling, reducing the risk of collision, and minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and blood vessels.
Additionally, each arm of the Da Vinci Xi Robot can be equipped with a camera, enabling the surgeon to change the viewing angle during surgery, improving precision and flexibility. The robotic arms can rotate 540 degrees thanks to wrist-simulation technology, allowing the surgeon to perform delicate procedures in deep, narrow, and hard-to-reach areas.
The Da Vinci Xi Robot also ensures superior accuracy by allowing the surgeon to control the procedure via a console, with a 3D, high-resolution view of the entire surgical area. Every subtle movement of the surgeon’s hands and fingers is translated precisely and intuitively to the surgical tools inside the patient’s body.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Binh, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Tam Anh General Hospital
PGS.TS.BS Tran Quang Binh, Chief Medical Officer at Tam Anh General Hospital, emphasized that with the Da Vinci Xi Robot, Vietnamese patients now have access to advanced surgical techniques within the country, instead of traveling abroad with high costs and long waiting times.
The use of such high-tech devices underscores Tam Anh Hospital's relentless efforts to elevate healthcare standards to international levels, offering better opportunities for healthier lives to millions of people.
