Strengthening cold air brings scattered light rain to northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that on December 4, a surge of cold air affected the Northeastern region and parts of the North Central region, bringing rain and scattered light showers. Temperatures dropped by about 1-3 degrees Celsius, while the Bach Long Vi station recorded strong northeast winds at force 6 (39-49 km/h).
Over the next 24-48 hours, the cold air is expected to continue spreading to other areas of the north central region, before affecting the Northwestern region and the northern part of the central central region. Over land, northeast winds will remain at force 2-3 (6-19 km/h), increasing to force 3-4 (12-28 km/h) in coastal areas.
Across the north and north central regions, rain and scattered light showers are forecast. Weather conditions will remain cold, with severe cold in some high mountainous areas of northern Vietnam. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell in the north and north central regions are expected to range between 15-18°C, while in mountainous areas of the North they will likely fall to 13-15°C, with some locations dropping below 12°C.
In Hanoi, rain and scattered light showers are forecast, with cold conditions persisting. The minimum temperatures during this cold spell are expected to range from 15-18°C.
In the Gulf of Tonkin, northeast winds are blowing at force 5 (29-38 km/h), occasionally reaching force 6 (39-49 km/h), with gusts up to force 7 (50-61 km/h). Waves are forecast at 1.5-3.0 meters, and seas will be rough.
In the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa archipelago), northeast winds are expected at force 6-7 (39-61 km/h), with gusts reaching force 8-9 (62-88 km/h). Wave heights are forecast at 4.0-6.0 meters, with very rough seas.
From the waters of southern Quang Tri to Quang Ngai province, as well as the northern part of the central East Sea, northeast winds will strengthen to force 6 (39-49 km/h), with gusts reaching force 7-8 (50-74 km/h). Seas will be rough, with wave heights of 2.0-5.0 meters.
Due to the combined effects of the strengthening cold air, circulation from the weakening typhoon Koto , and upper-level disturbances within the easterly wind belt, the area from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang, as well as the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa, will experience widespread moderate to heavy rainfall.
