Storm Tapah forms in East Sea, coastal provinces urged to take swift response
VOV.VN - A tropical depression over the northeastern East Sea strengthened into typhoon No. 7 this year, internationally named Tapah, with its center located at approximately 18.4°N- 116.3°E at 16:00 on September 6, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Maximum sustained winds reached 62-74 km/h, with gusts up to 89 km/h, as the storm moves northwest at 15 km/h.
Over the next two days, Tapah is expected to continue moving northwest at 10-15 km/h and will intensifying further. By 16:00 on September 9, the typhoon is forecast to shift mainly westward at about 15 km/h, weakening into a tropical depression and subsequently into a low-pressure system.
Winds over the northeastern East Sea are expected at level 6-7, rising to 7-8; near the storm center, winds could reach 9-10, with gusts up to 13. Waves may rise 3.0-5.0 m, creating very rough seas, while vessels in the danger zone face squalls, whirlwinds, strong winds, and high waves.
In response to Tapah, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development issued an urgent dispatch to the People’s Committees of coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Dak Lak, requesting immediate implementation of measures to cope with the tropical depression that has strengthened into Typhoon No. 7.
Local authorities have been instructed to closely monitor the storm, strictly control vessels heading to sea, and carry out timely inspections and notifications for vessel owners and captains, enabling them to avoid or safely exit dangerous areas.
Rescue teams and equipment should be ready for immediate deployment if necessary. Media agencies, from central to local levels, are urged to provide timely updates on the storm, while relevant ministries and agencies coordinate with local authorities to ensure an effective response.
