Storm TALIM gains strength, heavy rain expected in northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - Storm TALIM has increased its grade and is on track to travel towards the northern coast of Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydro Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).
At 13:00 July 16, TALIM was located approximately 560km southeast of China’s Leizhou Peninsula, with winds gusting 102 kilometres per hour near its centre.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, the storm is forecast to move north and north-west at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, and is likely to strengthen further.
On July 17, it will travel past China’s Leizhou Peninsula into the Gulf of Tonkin and will directly affect Vietnam’s mainland on July 18.
Notably, the NCHMF said in its 13:00 bulletin that TALIM will lose its grade a bit before making landfall on July 18.
It will further weaken into a tropical depression and dissipate in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam on July 19.
TALIM is a powerful storm that will bring rough seas to the northern coast of Vietnam as well as strong winds and heavy rain to the northern region, especially mountainous localities, said Nguyen Van Huong, head of the Weather Forecast Division of the NCHMF.
Huong warned of high rainfall reaching its peak on July 18 and possible flashfloods and landslides in mountainous localities.
