Six dead and two missing in northern and central Vietnam flooding
VOV.VN - Eight people have been reported dead and missing following the recent downpours which unleashed floods and landslides across the northern and central regions.
According to information given by the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of the morning of September 29 the northern region has seen floodwater and torrential rainfall submerge 28,000 hectares of paddy fields and vegetable crops. In addition, about 504 houses have either collapsed or been damaged, while 65 traffic destinations have been eroded with a volume of more than 17,000 m3.
In central region, about 145 out of 1,860 hectares of vegetable crops are still inundated with flooding, 422 houses have been damaged, and nearly 3,000 hectares of paddy fields have been inundated under floodwater.
10 km traffic routes have been eroded, whilst six bridges and seven gates were damaged.
The National Center for Hydrology Meteorology Forecasting said the prolonged wave of heavy rain which hit Hanoi and the northern region abated from September 28, with the weather now dry and sunny.
Meantime, localities from Quang Binh to Khanh Hoa, as well as the Central Highlands, continue to experience thundery rains.
