Severe heat wave continues in northern and central regions

VOV.VN - The hot spell which has hit the northern and central regions over recent days will continue until the weekend, according to information given by the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The agency reported that the hot weather conditions occurred on April 1 on a large scale in both northern and central provinces, with the highest temperature ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Over the last two days, hot weather in the western lowland area has developed, whilst the entirety of the northern and central regions was hot during both afternoons with a temperature of 37 to 40 degrees.

A temperature of over 40 degrees was recorded in some areas such as the northern mountainous province of Son La at 41.6 degrees. In central provinces the temperature in Nghe An was 40.2 degrees, whilst Ha Tinh was at 40.5 degrees, Quang Binh at 40.2 degrees, and Quang Tri at 40.2 degrees.

In Hanoi, people felt the heat when they ventured out at noon on April 1, with daytime temperatures rising to 35 degrees.

Moving forward, the hot spell is forecast to increase its intensity on April 3 before reaching its peak on April 4 as it grips large areas from the northern to central regions.

Doctors warn that hot spells could potentially threaten people’s health, especially children and the elderly, whilst labourers working outdoors must take appropriate measures.

Furthermore, a cold spell will hit a number of northern localities, including Hanoi, from the night of April 7, resulting a drop in the temperature to 22 to 26 degrees Celsius over the following days.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also warned of downpours hitting northern mountainous areas.

Widespread spells of rain are also likely to occur in the central, Central Highlands, and southern regions this month.
