Second stage of trials for Covivac vaccine sees 81 volunteers receive second jab
VOV.VN - As many as 81 volunteers were given their second jab of the locally-produced Covivac vaccine on September 15 as it entered the second phase of human clinical trials.
The trial injection programme is currently being carried out in Vu Thu district of Thai Binh province and is set to feature the participation of 374 volunteers by September 20.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thiem, director of the Center for Clinical Trials of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that the trialists had been divided into three groups, with members of the first group each receiving a three-mcg dose of Covivac. In addition, the second group’s members were given a six-mcg dose, whilst the third group received a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The first jab of the second stage was conducted in mid-August, with this proving the vaccine’s safety among volunteers, he noted, adding that the third phase of clinical trials is due to take place in December of this year.
Currently, the Covivac vaccine produced by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology represents the second homegrown COVID-19 vaccine to be licensed for clinical trials by the Ministry of Health, following Nano Covax.
