Search campaign for 39 victims in Ha Long Bay tourist boat tragedy concluded
VOV.VN - Authorities have concluded the search and rescue campaign for the 39 individuals involved in the recent tourist boat capsizing on Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh province.

Local authorities confirmed on July 27 that the body found near Trong cave, approximately 10 kilometers from the scene of the tourist boat capsizing is that of Hoang Van Thai, born in 1985.
Thai’s body was discovered on the afternoon of July 26, and his identity was confirmed through DNA testing. The dead body was later handed over to the family for funeral arrangements.
Thai was the final missing victim of the Wonder Sea tourist boat capsizing on July 19 that had left 39 dead and 10 injured.
The tragic incident occurred when the sightseeing vessel, carrying domestic tourists, overturned during a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ha Long Bay amid a sudden thunderstorm.
Search and rescue forces were immediately deployed, including coast guards, border guards, divers, and local volunteers, working around the clock in challenging conditions.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended his heartfelt sympathies to the injured and expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to oversee the search, rescue, and recovery operations.
After days of intensive efforts, all 39 victims, including the deceased, injured, and missing, have been accounted for.
The provincial administration has extended condolences to the victims' families, provided emergency support, and is currently conducting a review of safety protocols and tourism operations on Ha Long Bay.
The tragic incident has exposed significant loopholes in early warning systems and the management of inland waterway tourism in the region.
According to local authorities, the tourist vessel was built in 2015 and certified to carry up to 48 passengers. In January 2025, the vessel was granted a certificate of technical safety and environmental protection for inland waterway transportation.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
