The school was opened by Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) in collaboration with the Vietnam-Korea Friendship Association in Thai Nguyen and Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI).

The school, with an investment of VND22 billion (US$950,000), has been built with the hope of bringing comprehensive childhood development activities to children in the province.

SEV Thai Nguyen sponsored US$500,000, which includes the entire construction cost and the operating cost for the first year. The rest of the operating budget will be collected through sponsorship from charity organisations, donors and SEV.

The project is part of Samsung’s efforts to develop the province’s young generation. It also serves as an appreciation campaign for locals in areas where Samsung’s factory operates.

The school has been built with modern equipment and will create a harmonious learning system, consisting of classes (arts, music, information technology and languages), library, playground, cafeteria and washrooms. Extra-curricular activities, such as interaction, healthcare and charity, will also be offered. By participating in Samsung Hope School programmes, the province’s 300 students will benefit from a complete educational environment, combining studies with hands-on learning as well as play.

Speaking at the ceremony, SEV’s General Director Shim Won Hwan said in addition to investing in business projects in Vietnam, Samsung has always paid attention to its social corporate responsibilities.

“We expect to bring the best to the Vietnamese people, particularly to those in Thai Nguyen, helping students achieve their dreams,” he said.

The project is the second of its kind in Vietnam to be sponsored entirely by Samsung. In 2013, the first Samsung Hope School worth US$300,000 funded by donations from Samsung Electronics Korea employees, was inaugurated in the Red River Delta province of Bac Ninh, providing education to 200 students from the elementary level to high school. The SEV factory is located in the same area.
