Salmonella identified as cause of bánh mì food poisoning in Dak Lak
VOV.VN - All 80 patients hospitalised after eating bánh mì (Vietnamese baguette) in Dak Lak province, Vietnam's Central Highlands were infected with Salmonella, with the bacterium identified as the cause, said Nguyen Khac Hieu, director of the Ea H’leo Medical Center, on April 3.
According to health officials, the patients were infected with Salmonella, a common foodborne bacterium often found in undercooked meat, fish, eggs and vegetables.
The outbreak was traced to bánh mì sold at a shop identified as Q.H along Ho Chi Minh Road in Ea Drang commune. After consuming the food, patients developed symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and fever, consistent with Salmonella infection. Health officials said symptoms usually subside after a few days and are usually not life-threatening.
Between March 28 and 30, the Ea H’leo Medical Center reported an increase in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, all of whom reported eating bánh mì from the same outlet.
