VOV.VN - Seventeen people have been hospitalized after reportedly eating banh mi (Vietnamese baguette sandwich) at a shop on Phan Van Tri Street in Ho Chi Minh City, the municipal Department of Health said, adding that the city’s health sector is monitoring and handling the case.
As of noon on March 1, hospitals in the city had admitted 17 patients for examination and treatment after they consumed food at A.C. banh mi shop in Hanh Thong Ward.
Military Hospital 175 received 12 cases, Gia Dinh People’s Hospital recorded four cases, and Thu Duc Regional General Hospital admitted one case.
Two days earlier, Military Hospital 175 reported to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health that it had treated six patients with gastrointestinal symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea and high fever. All said they had eaten banh mi at the same shop before symptoms appeared.
The Department of Health has instructed medical facilities to review admission procedures to ensure proper triage, hospitalization and treatment in line with professional guidelines.
Hospitals have also been asked to promptly report patient intake figures, severe cases, microbiological test results and any complications, in order to coordinate with relevant agencies and agree on response measures.
