RoK limits Vietnam guest workers again

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Doan Mau Diep on March 18 announced the Republic of Korea (RoK) has once again placed a 3,500 cap on the number of guest workers for the year.

Over the past three years, the RoK has only agreed to accept 3,000-3,500 workers annually, said Diep, as a result of the failure of workers to comply with the labour laws and return to Vietnam on schedule.

“Around 32% of guest workers quit their jobs in violation of their contracts or illegally overstay their work visas,” Diep said, which has resulted in the RoK drastically curtailing the number of workers given visas each year.

Diep said several years ago, the RoK was admitting 10,000-12,000 workers on average annually into the country on the guest worker program.

“We expect that workers will this year obey the laws so that we can resume a regular labour cooperation agreement with the country,” said Diep.
