Reburial service held for remains of 36 fallen soldiers in Vinh Long

VOV.VN - Southern Vinh Long province on February 6 held a memorial and burial ceremony for the remains of 36 fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and freedom and were recently located and recovered.

The ceremony took place at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Giong Trom district, formerly part of Ben Tre province and now Chau Hoa commune of Vinh Long province, and was organised by the provincial People’s Committee and the provincial Steering Committee 515.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Vinh Long People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Be Muoi expressed profound gratitude to the heroic martyrs who devoted their lives to the national liberation cause.

Although the full names and hometowns of many of the fallen soldiers have yet to be identified, their sacrifice for the independence of the Fatherland and the happiness of the people remains immense and everlasting, she said.

She stressed that today’s generations are deeply proud of and grateful for those sacrifices.

The blood and sacrifice of the martyrs have become part of every inch of the homeland, contributing to the glorious pages of the nation’s history and the proud tradition of Vinh Long province, she noted.

Representatives from local Party committees, authorities, armed forces and people of Vinh Long pledged to stay united, continue along the path chosen by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, preserve and promote the achievements of the revolution, and build a prosperous, civilized homeland worthy of the tremendous sacrifices made by previous generations.

Under the direction of the provincial Steering Committee 515, local competent forces have coordinated closely with authorities, armed forces and residents of the former Ben Tre province to search for and gather the remains of fallen soldiers, bringing them home for burial at martyrs’ cemeteries.

After more than a month of intensive efforts, search teams recovered 36 sets of remains that had been buried at temporary wartime burial sites in the former Ben Tre province.

In recent years, Vinh Long province and the former Ben Tre province have actively carried out the search, recovery and reburial of numerous unidentified fallen soldiers who died during the resistance wars, relocating them to local martyrs’ cemeteries.

These activities reflect Vietnam’s tradition of gratitude toward those who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland and represent a sacred responsibility to honour the fallen.
