The suspects included one Laotian, two Vietnamese, and six Chinese.
Previously, at 8:00 a.m. on July 27 in the border area of Lao Bao town, border guards co-operated with local police to catch Si Non, a 19-year-old Laotian national, who was carrying a Chinese person on his motorbike as they crossed the border illegally into Vietnam.
Si Non later confessed that two hours previously he and two other Lao citizens were hired to help three other Chinese nationals illegally enter Lao Bao town. The cost of illegal entry was set at 1.5 million Lao Kip.
Upon expanding the case, the joint forces continued to arrest a Vietnamese person and four Chinese people who had previously entered the country illegally and were waiting at the Se Pon Hotel in Lao Bao town.
The group consisted of Vietnamese national Nguyen Thanh Hung, 30, residing in Cam Lo district of Quang Tri province; along with Lai Jia Liang, 25; Wu Jia Bin, 27; Chen De Bin, 22; and Liu Yan Jun, 30, all of whom are from China.
Following this, a Chinese national named Pei Ze Zeng, 22, and a Vietnamese man named Ho Hoi were also caught by local authorities.
Once at the police station, Hung admitted that he was hired by Hoi to bring the Chinese nationals to Ho Chi Minh City for a fee of VND1.5 million per person.
According to the initial testimony of the Chinese suspects, they were trained in high-tech fraud in the Golden Triangle area. After completing the training course, they then found ways to illegally enter Vietnam and go to Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia with the aim of setting up networks and connecting with local and foreign fraudsters to make use of high technology to commit fraud and appropriate property. The case is currently under further investigation.
