Public veneration of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc’s Heart Sarira set to begin May 6

VOV.VN - The veneration of the Heart Sarira of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, one of the events within the framework of the 2025 United Nations Vesak celebrations, will begin at 2:00 pm on May 6 and last until May 10 at the Vietnam Quoc Tu Pagoda in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, according to the latest announcement issued on the afternoon of May 3 by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City.

Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc self-immolated on June 11, 1963, at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung streets, Saigon (now the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam (August Revolution) and Nguyen Dinh Chieu Streets, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City to protest the persecution of Buddhists. He left behind the Heart Sarira, an immortal symbol of compassion, wisdom, and the spirit of Vietnamese tradition.

The opening ceremony of the veneration of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc’s Heart Sarira, originally scheduled for May 3, was postponed. According to the organizers, over 1,088 delegations with nearly 50,000 people have registered to venerate the Heart Sarira of the Bodhisattva at the Vietnam Quoc Tu Pagoda.
