Prolonged heavy rain raises risks of flash floods and landslides from Quang Tri to Gia Lai
VOV.VN - The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued an urgent warning of high risks of flash floods, landslides, and ground subsidence across several central and Central Highlands provinces, from Quang Tri to Gia Lai, due to prolonged heavy rainfall over recent days.
According to the center, areas from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai have experienced torrential rain, with some places recording over 500 millimeters, while parts of Gia Lai have also seen heavy downpours. Soil moisture levels in many areas have reached saturation, increasing the likelihood of landslides.
Heavy rain is expected to persist in the next few hours, particularly in Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai, where accumulated rainfall may exceed 200 millimeters in some locations.
The disaster risk levels have been classified as level 1 for Quang Tri and Gia Lai, level 2 for Quang Ngai, and level 3 for Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang.
Local authorities have been urged to promptly review vulnerable areas, evacuate residents from high-risk zones, and closely monitor weather developments to take timely response measures.
The weather agency warned that flash floods and landslides could cause severe damage to people and property, disrupt transportation, and affect production and daily life in affected localities.
