People advised to remain vigilant despite a fall in dengue infections
VOV.VN - Health professionals have asked people to stay vigilant though dengue fever is showing signs of waning across the country.
Statistics show that nearly 53,000 dengue infections have been documented in localities nationwide since the beginning of the year, representing a year-on-year decrease of 15%. Six fatalities have been recorded, or 10 cases fewer than last year’s corresponding period.
However, the disease is sporadically breaking out, with fresh cases and fatalities recorded in many localities.
Last week saw 3,095 fresh cases logged in localities nationwide, representing a slight increase compared to the previous week. Fatalities were also confirmed in the northern port city of Hai Phong and the Central Highland province of Dak Lak.
Health experts say that dengue fever is no longer a cyclical disease but has a high number of cases every year due to climate change, environment and population characteristics.
Although the number of cases has decreased, the disease can develop suddenly, causing many extremely dangerous complications, even death, and a long recovery time, they warn.
The health professionals suggest that people should remain vigilant and proactively prevent and control the disease, by killing larvae and adult mosquitoes and carrying out mosquito spraying in disease prone areas. When showing symptoms, people are required to go to a medical facility for blood tests and treatment, instead of self-treatment at home.
