Dengue fever cases increasingly complicated in Thua Thien-Hue

VOV.VN - A total of nearly 900 cases of dengue fever have been recorded across Thua Thien-Hue province since the beginning of the year, with this figure representing a five-fold increase in comparison to the same period from last year.

The past two weeks has seen the province continue to witness more than 80 cases of dengue fever, with the majority being detected in Hue.

Furthermore, Hue Central Hospital also treated 712 dengue fever cases in July, a triple increase over the same period from 2023.

According to Le Thi Kim Chi, a doctor from Hue City Medical Center, on average each week sees the division of pediatric infectious diseases receive 10 to 15 cases test positive for the dengue virus.

She said that most patients were admitted to the hospital on the third and fourth day of dengue fever cycle, with these cases having symptoms such as a high fever, body aches, eye socket pain, and a severe headache.

Most notably, A Luoi mountainous district, where no cases were recorded in 2021 and 2023, witnessed nearly 30 dengue patients this year. At present case numbers are rising rapidly, with numerous outbreaks and hotspots detected across several communes.

Health experts said that the spike in cases is mainly linked to the ongoing rainy season, which has boosted mosquito populations.

As part of efforts to cope with the complicated development of the disease, the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has set up a working group to help A Luoi District Medical Center and other communes to detect vector indices and perform Dengue NS1 Antigen rapid test on patients suspected of contracting the disease.

In areas where dengue fever cases have been detected, medical staff also carried out mosquito chemical spraying as part of efforts to prevent the further spread of the disease.

The Thua Thien-Hue provincial health department has also requested that local health centres take steps in which to boost knowledge about what preventive action regular citizens can take to stop the spread of the disease.

Health centres are also being urged to classify patients correctly to enable them to receive the correct form of treatment depending on their situation.

The health department is also encouraging local residents to take environmental sanitation measures with the aim of eliminating mosquito larvae.
