Overseas Vietnamese in Thailand look toward National Assembly elections
VOV.VN - As Vietnam prepares for the coming National Assembly and local People's Councils for the 2026–2031 period, Vietnamese nationals in Thailand are closely following developments in their homeland.
Many overseas Vietnamese expressed confidence and expectations that the elected representatives will contribute to the country’s continued development while strengthening ties between Vietnam and its diaspora.
In recent days, the Vietnamese community in Thailand has shown strong interest in the election process taking place in Vietnam. For many expatriates, the event is not only an important political milestone but also an opportunity to demonstrate their affection and responsibility toward their homeland.
According to Ninh Viet Thong, vice chairman of the Association of Vietnamese in Bangkok, Vietnamese people living and working in Thailand continue to follow Vietnam’s development closely despite living abroad.
“We do hope that the coming 16th National Assembly will continue to listen to and represent the aspirations of the people, including overseas Vietnamese communities,” he told VOV.
Such confidence is also reflected in the expectations of young entrepreneurs within the Vietnamese community.
Nguyen Minh Dong, an entrepreneur running a Vietnamese cuisine business in Bangkok, said he regularly monitors Vietnam’s development policies.
According to him, every vote cast by voters in Vietnam not only elects representatives but also brings hope for policies that create more favourable conditions for overseas Vietnamese in investment and business cooperation with their homeland.
“Overseas Vietnamese hope the government will introduce more supportive policies that allow them to participate more actively in Vietnam’s socio-economic development,” he said.
Appropriate policy decisions by the National Assembly and authorities at all levels could strengthen overseas Vietnamese confidence and encourage more resources from the diaspora to contribute to national development.
For many older members of the Vietnamese community, the upcoming elections hold particularly deep meaning.
Wipha Rueangkamphai, known by her Vietnamese name Oanh, a Vietnamese language teacher in Udon Thani, said the Vietnamese community in Thailand has always preserved its patriotic tradition and strong attachment to the homeland.
“Electing capable and responsible representatives would help promote national development while creating more opportunities for younger generations of overseas Vietnamese to stay connected to their roots,” she said.
Oanh also expressed hope that the new National Assembly would continue promoting cultural and educational exchanges between overseas Vietnamese communities and Vietnam, helping younger generations better understand their origins and nurture a sense of national pride.
The sentiments shared by the Vietnamese community in Thailand highlight the strong confidence and expectations of overseas Vietnamese regarding the upcoming elections.
The elections for the 16th National Assembly and local People’s Councils are not only a significant political event for Vietnam but also serve as an important bridge connecting Vietnamese communities around the world with their homeland.
