Noi Bai becomes Vietnam's first airport to achieve global carbon certification
VOV.VN - Noi Bai International Airport, managed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), has officially achieved Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Level 1, becoming the first airport in Vietnam to attain carbon management certification under the framework owned and managed by Airports Council International (ACI).
Airport Carbon Accreditation is a global carbon management certification program for airports, institutionally endorsed by ACI. The program independently assesses airports' efforts to control, manage, and progressively reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a seven-level certification system ranging from Level 1 to Level 5, including advanced tiers.
To achieve ACA Level 1, Noi Bai International Airport conducted a comprehensive review of all operations under its management, identified emission sources, and collected data for greenhouse gas inventories. The assessment scope covers direct and indirect emissions under Scope 1 and Scope 2, including fuel used for vehicles, generators, machinery, and equipment; wastewater treatment operations; refrigerants; and grid electricity consumed for operational activities.
On this basis, the airport compiled a Carbon Footprint Report, determining calculation methodologies, operational data, emission factors, and emission results. These data were independently audited and verified, establishing a reliable foundation for emission management and tracking during operations.
This also marks an important step forward enabling Noi Bai to transition from identifying emission sources to managing emissions based on data. Consequently, the airport gains a basis for evaluating energy efficiency, optimizing operational activities, and researching environmental impact mitigation solutions in line with practical conditions.
An ACV representative stated that Noi Bai International Airport becoming the first airport in Vietnam to achieve ACA Level 1 demonstrates ACV's proactive orientation in promoting green transformation across the airport system under its management and operation.
Amidst the global aviation industry's intensified efforts to reduce emissions and work toward net-zero emissions by 2050, ACV identifies carbon management, energy efficiency, and environmental impact mitigation as vital elements in developing a modern, efficient, and sustainable airport system.
