New rain spell to hit northern Vietnam next week
VOV.VN - Heavy rain is letting up in the northern region of Vietnam but a new spell of rain is expected to batter the region next week, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
Rain has been falling across northern localities over the past few days due to the influence of low pressure troughs combined with high wind convergence areas.
However, the ongoing spell of rain is showing signs of waning till this weekend, with some localities anticipated to receive between 15-30mm of rainfall, said meteorologists.
Local people will enjoy cool weather in a couple of days before a new wave of rain is set to hit the region, starting on August 19, they said.
The meteorological agency warned that heavy rain could cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides in mountainous localities and flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the ongoing heatwave that has been striking the central region for the past few days has yet to subside. August 14 saw daytime temperatures in localities stretching from Ha Tinh to Ninh Thuan rise to 37-39 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity falling to 55-65%.
Hot weather is forecast to continue in parts of the central region, especially from Nghe An to Phu Yen provinces, in the coming days.
