Heat wave to end as rain returns to northern region

VOV.VN - Hot sunny days in the northern region are due to end on August 12 when a low-pressure area triggers rains and winds, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The north of the nation has seen a widespread heat wave over the past few days, with temperatures ranging between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius.

The northern mountainous Son La and Hoa Binh provinces, northern midland and plain regions, and central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen have been the hardest hit by the heat wave.

The average temperatures ranges from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, peaking at over 38 degrees Celsius in some localities. The high temperature coupled with the lowest relative humidity of 50% to 55% during this period pose threats of fires and explosions in residential areas due to the increased demand for electricity along with forest fires in central localities, the centre reported.

Dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke as the human body is exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time are also a potential issue.

The heat wave is predicted to last until August 11, with rainfall and thunderstorms expected to occur on August 12 and August 13.
