More than 300 Vietnamese nationals repatriated from Myanmar fighting areas

VOV.VN - As many as 338 Vietnamese nationals left stranded in Myanmar’s fighting areas were brought home safely on December 4, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They are among more than 800 Vietnamese nationals stranded in Myanmar’s battle areas whose information has bene verified by the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies of Vietnam are closely coordinating with relevant agencies of a number of partner countries to evacuate the remaining number of Vietnamese nationals out of the conflict areas.

The repatriation campaign has been carried out following fierce fighting between Myanmar soldiers and ethnic armed groups in northern Myanmar, posing a great threat to the safety of foreign communities there, including Vietnamese expatriates.

The majority of Vietnamese nationals are young people, including teenagers and pregnant women who had been scammed into online gambling establishments in the northern states of Myanmar. They had been harassed by their employers and left stranded due to the fierce fighting there.

Last month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said relevant Vietnamese agencies were working around the clock to bring home Vietnamese nationals in Myanmar’s conflict areas.

The agencies initially put the number at approximately 700, and they were continuing to verify other cases.
