Approx. 700 Vietnamese nationals safe in Myanmar’s conflict areas
VOV.VN - The security situation in some northern states of Myanmar remains complicated following recent conflicts, and about 700 Vietnamese citizens staying in these areas are temporarily safe, according to Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Many other cases are awaiting verification, Hang said at a press briefing in Hanoi on November 23, in response to reporters’ question on citizen protection work for Vietnamese nationals in conflict areas in north Myanmar.
Upon hearing about the situation in late October, Hang said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to work with Myanmar authorities, requesting that the Myanmar side ensure safety and basic living conditions for the citizens and create favourable conditions for them to move out of the conflict areas.
Vietnamese representative agencies in Myanmar and China have closely coordinated and shared information with foreign representative agencies of countries having citizens in the areas, asking for support to Vietnamese citizens there.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing to coordinate with relevant domestic and foreign agencies to ensure safety and soon deploy evacuation plans, said the spokesperson.
She also added the ministry would closely monitor the situation, keep in touch with the agency representing Vietnamese citizens in the refugee area, and prepare to deploy necessary civil protection work to bring home the citizens.
