More than 22,000 surgeries performed nationwide during Tet
VOV.VN - Hospitals across the nation conducted 22,082 surgeries during the nine-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, including 3,591 emergency operations and 18,167 newborns, according to the Ministry of Health.
On February 22 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year holiday), the Ministry of Health reported to the Office of the Party Central Committee and the Government Office on health sector operations during the Lunar New Year (Tet), covering epidemic prevention and control, medical examination and treatment, food safety and drug supply.
During the nine-day Tet holiday, infectious diseases were kept under control and no concentrated outbreaks were recorded.
Nationwide, 1,431 dengue fever cases were reported over the holiday, with no deaths; cumulative figures since the beginning of 2026 reached 23,442 cases and four deaths. Hand, foot and mouth disease accounted for 955 cases during Tet, with no deaths; cumulative cases totaled 14,596 with two deaths. Measles recorded 105 cases, with no deaths; cumulative cases stood at 1,415. No diphtheria or streptococcus suis cases were reported.
The Ministry directed medical facilities to maintain 24/7 duty arrangements, ensuring adequate personnel, medicines, medical supplies and equipment. Online reporting was implemented at 1,672 hospitals and regional medical centers with inpatient beds.
Doctors performed over 22,000 surgeries, including 3,591 emergency operations. During the period, 18,167 babies were born, including 8,928 cesarean deliveries.
Total deaths, including pre-hospital deaths, in-hospital deaths and critically ill patients discharged at family request, amounted to 2,261 cases.
There were 27,021 medical examinations linked to suspected traffic accidents; 10,780 patients were hospitalized and 182 deaths were recorded.
Firework-related incidents accounted for 345 emergency visits, 182 hospital admissions and one death. Suspected incidents involving homemade weapons or explosives resulted in 62 emergency cases, 31 hospital admissions and three deaths.
Food poisoning and digestive disorders led to 666 medical visits, 418 hospital admissions and two deaths. From February 14 to 22, 2026, the food safety system maintained round-the-clock readiness to respond to incidents.
Two food poisoning incidents were recorded nationwide. In Ca Mau province, three people were hospitalized after consuming seafood. In Ngoc Lien Commune, Thanh Hoa province, 13 people required treatment after suspected food poisoning linked to fish roe. All patients have stabilized and been discharged.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that adequate medicines and medical supplies were ensured for treatment and disease prevention. As of February 22, no reports of shortages were recorded nationwide.
