More than 140 Vietnamese detained in Cambodia over online scam involvement
VOV.VN - Relevant Vietnamese agencies are working on citizen protection after Cambodian authorities in Phnom Penh on July 14 detained more than 140 Vietnamese citizens for their alleged involvement in online fraud activities, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia on July 15 engaged with local authorities to inquire into the situation, requested Cambodia to ensure proper living conditions for the Vietnamese detainees, and coordinated to verify their identities, Hang said at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on July 17.
According to the spokesperson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia and relevant units to urgently coordinate with domestic and Cambodian authorities to carry out necessary consular procedures and assist in repatriating the citizens as soon as possible.
She once again warned Vietnamese citizens to be cautious about overseas job offers promising easy work and high pay without requiring qualifications or signed contracts.
Citizens should thoroughly research the job, employer, work location, references, and insurance policies before deciding to work abroad. Those needing assistance can contact the Citizen Protection Hotline of the Consular Department or the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the spokesperson advised.
On July 16, border guard units in collaboration with the Tay Ninh Provincial Police received 45 citizens deported by Cambodian authorities for illegal residence.
Investigations revealed that most were lured to Cambodia through online job advertisements promising well-paid jobs. Upon arrival, they were forced to work for online scam syndicates.
