Martyrs’ remains found in Cambodia laid to rest

VOV.VN - A solemn memorial service and burial ceremony was held for 255 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs on July 26 at 82 Hill Martyrs Cemetery in the southeast province of Tay Ninh, a locality which borders Cambodia.

The event took place as part of activities to mark the 75th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) to express respect and deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the greater cause of national liberation, reunification, and noble international missions, local authorities said.

In the 2021-2022 dry season, two search teams K70 and K71 unearthed and repatriated a total of 238 remains of martyrs in Cambodia and 17 others in Tay Ninh province.

82 Hill Martyrs Cemetery is the final resting place of nearly 14,000 martyrs from across the country who passed away in the resistance war against US imperialists and during international missions in Cambodia.

The same day also saw the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap hold a ceremony at Tam Nong district’s martyr cemetery to rebury remains of 80 volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in international missions throughout Cambodia.

Among them, 75 remains were repatriated by the K91 search team of the Dong Thap provincial Military Command in the Cambodian province of Preyveng during the 2021 – 2022 dry season.

Since 2001, the K91 search team has collected a total of 1,981 sets of remains, with 93 sets identified.
