Nghe An reinters 103 remains of war martyrs repatriated from Laos
VOV.VN - The central province of Nghe An on May 25 held a ceremony to rebury 103 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died during their noble international missions in Laos in the past.
The ceremony held at Nghi Loc District War Martyrs Cemetery was attended by officials of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, the Nghe An administration and several Lao localities, including Vientiane, Xaysomboun, and Xieng Khuang.
Delivering the eulogy at the ceremony, Nguyen Van Thong, deputy head of the Nghe An administration, expressed deep gratitude for the great merits of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national construction and defense and for noble international missions in Laos.
The sacrifices of the martyrs greatly contributed to the victory of the two countries’ revolutions, as well as to deepening the special friendship and solidarity between the two peoples, he stressed.
At the ceremony, the deputy governor of Xieng Khuang province affirmed that the Party, State and people of Laos are forever grateful to Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who heroically laid down their lives in Laos.
The Lao people will stand side by side with the Vietnamese people to cultivate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperative relationship between the two countries, he said.
The 103 sets of remains were searched, excavated and collected by a team of the Military Command of Nghe An province in the 2021-2022 dry season. They were handed over and repatriated to the Vietnamese side during ceremonies held in Xieng Khuang on May 23-24.
