MARD tightens illegal transportation of poultry into Vietnamese market

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has sent a document to relevant agencies in order to request that they tighten control and strictly handle cases of illegal transportation of poultry products across the border into Vietnam.

The move comes following the illegal transportation and trade of poultry and poultry products across the border into the country continued to become complicated at localities which share borders with other countries.

According to information given by the MARD, this might be one of the main reasons for the high risk of pathogenic avian influenza viruses and dangerous infectious diseases entering the country from abroad and spreading to other localities, an issue which has seriously affected the domestic poultry industry and people's health.

As a means of preventing disease outbreaks, the MARD has proposed strengthening supervision and control, especially at border gates, trails, seaports, and rivers in a bid to promptly detect and strictly handle cases of illegal trading, slaughtering, and transporting poultry products into the nation.

In the event of seizing shipments of illegally transported poultry products, these batches must be culled immediately with samples being taken to send to veterinary agencies for disease testing.
