Large unexploded wartime bomb handled at Quang Tri airport
VOV.VN - Experts from the PeaceTrees Vietnam Project, in coordination with the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, on July 30 carried out the disposal of a wartime bomb weighing over 200kg at the construction site of the new Terminal T2 of Dong Hoi airport.

The bomb was discovered on July 29 by a construction unit while driving foundation piles for the Terminal T2 project at Dong Hoi airport. Immediately, all construction activities were halted, and the team reported the finding to the relevant authorities.
Subsequently, PeaceTrees Vietnam received a request from the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command to assist in disposing of the large bomb.
The bomb was identified as an MK82, approximately 1.5 meters in length, 273 mm in diameter, and 227kg in weight. It was found with its fuse still intact.
After nearly two hours of carefully removing layers of soil, experts successfully accessed the bomb and transported it to a designated explosive materials storage facility pending disposal. The operation was conducted during a window with no aircraft takeoffs or landings to ensure safety.
During the war of resistance against American imperialism, Quang Tri was the most heavily bombed area in Vietnam, with 83% of its land contaminated by unexploded ordnance.
