500-kg bomb with intact fuse safely defused in Nghe An

VOV.VN - The Military Command of Than Linh commune, in collaboration with the Nghe An provincial Military Command, successfully disposed of a 500kg bomb with an intact fuse on July 4, ensuring safety for local residents and property.

The bomb was discovered on June 29 by Dau Thi Nghi, a resident of Village 1 in Than Linh commune, while she was digging in her garden to plant trees. She found a large cylindrical metal object about 50 meters from her house and immediately alerted the local authorities.

In response, the Nghe An Provincial Military Command dispatched a team from its Engineering Division to the site. The area was quickly cordoned off, and round-the-clock patrols were established to prevent access by residents and livestock.

The device was identified as a U.S.-made MK 83 bomb, approximately 2.17 meters long and 0.4 meters in diameter, buried deep underground with its fuse still intact.

Following safety protocols, the bomb was carefully relocated to a designated safe area in Village 8 of Than Linh commune, where it was safely defused and disposed of without incident.
