Bomb safely removed near Phong Nha Cave entrance, ensuring tourist safety
VOV.VN - PeaceTrees Vietnam in collaboration with relevant agencies has safely defused a bomb weighing more than 220kg near the entrance of Phong Nha cave in the central province of Quang Binh, said Pham Thi Hoang Ha, director of the PeaceTrees Vietnam project.
The operation helped ensure absolute safety for visitors and maintained stable tourism activities at Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, said Ha.
Earlier on July 6, while dredging and clearing the Son River flow, the management board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park discovered a bomb approximately 200 meters from the cave entrance. All construction activities were immediately halted, and the Phong Nha - Tien Son tourist route was temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.
Following a request for assistance from the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, the MTT1 Multi-Tasking Team under the PeaceTrees Vietnam Project promptly arrived at the site. Upon inspection, the team identified the ordnance as an MK82 bomb, weighing 227kg, still capable of detonation but safe to transport under proper technical conditions.
The bomb was then safely relocated to the provincial military command's explosive storage facility to await controlled detonation, in accordance with safety protocols.
Tran Mung, deputy director of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang Tourism Centre, stated that thanks to the swift response from PeaceTrees Vietnam, tourism activities on the Phong Nha - Tien Son route have resumed safely, ensuring a secure environment for visitors.
