Korean man wanted by Interpol arrested in Da Nang
VOV.VN - The police have arrested Im Ju Seob, a Korean national who is on the Interpol wanted list for running an online gambling ring in his home country.
The arrest was carried out in central Da Nang city by the local police in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security's Foreign Affairs Department.
According to the police, the 53-year-old Korean man had been placed under a red notice by Interpol for managing an illegal Korean gambling website with servers located in the Philippines. The site was operational from early 2017 to the end of 2019.
The police said that Im Ju Seob had first entered Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, where he stayed for a while.
He then moved to Da Nang in mid-February and stayed at a hotel in Ngu Hanh Son district before being arrested by the police.
Once questioned at the police station, the Interpol-wanted Korean man confessed that he had operated the gambling website and accumulated a total online bet money at over KRW44.3 billion, equal to US$33.6 million.
The police have already completed procedures in order to hand over the man to Korean authorities.
