Kinder Surprise products under scrutiny after suspected salmonella poisoning
VOV.VN - Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has ordered food inspections to be conducted on imported Kinder Surprise eggs due to suspicion that some products may be contaminated with salmonella.
The move comes after Italian chocolate producer Ferrero recalled Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs in the UK market as a precautionary measure due to reported cases of salmonella poisoning across the country.
The decision was made by Ferrero amid British people purchasing the chocolate eggs as gifts for the upcoming Easter holiday, with this recall potentially extending to other countries.
The UK Food Standard Agency (FSA) says that it has so far recorded at least 57 cases of salmonella infections, including cases involving young children with a potential link to Ferrero’s Kinder Surprise products.
The products affected are batches which have expiry dates between 11 July and 7 October and Kinder Surprise Maxi products, with expiry dates of between October 8 and October 9.
This is in addition to Kinder Surprise Eggs shipments with expiry date of between October 8 and October 9 and Schoko Bons batches with expiry dates of between October 8 and October 9.
After receiving information about the Ferrero’s recall in the UK market, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed relevant agencies to inspect the similar imported products and submit a report on the manufacturing and expiry dates of these products to the Ministry.
In compliance with the provisions of the Law on Food Safety, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested that inspection units take samples of Ferrero’s products in the Vietnamese market to test for salmonella.
