Infection tally in HCM City passes 7,000 in new COVID-19 wave

VOV.VN - The Health Ministry confirmed a further 248 positive COVID-19 cases at midday on July 6, with Ho Chi Minh City suffering the highest number of infections at 209, raising its infection tally in the ongoing wave to 7,114.

In addition, a further four imported cases were detected Quang Nam and Kien Giang provinces, taking the overall number of imported infections to 1,877.

The majority of the new cases detected in Ho Chi Minh City are already in quarantine and areas under lockdown, although some have unknown transmission sources.

Furthermore, the cases detected in other provinces are either F1 contacts of confirmed patients or were detected in sealed-off areas, with these individuals now under epidemiological investigation.

A total of 128 of the fresh cases were recorded in quarantine sites or in areas under lockdown.

With the latest cases, a total of 21,560 active cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the nation so far.

The Treatment sub-committee under the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control confirmed four more fatalities on the morning of July 6 relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and underlying health conditions. The latest deaths therefore bring the overall death toll to 94 since the pandemic first hit the nation last year.

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City has continued to endure a sharp increase in the number of fresh local infections, with several hundreds of cases being registered on a daily basis.

On July 5, a total of 13,988 people were given the COVID-19 vaccine nationwide. As of 4 p.m. on July 5, approximately 3.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, with 226,858 people fully vaccinated with two doses.

Over the past two months into the latest wave, the country has recorded 18,113 community infections in 55 of its 63 cities and provinces throughout the nation.
