Seven localities record 277 new domestic COVID-19 cases, mostly in HCM City

VOV.VN - The Health Ministry reported the latest confirmation of 277 more domestic COVID-19 cases across seven Vietnamese localities on July 6 morning, with Ho Chi Minh topping the list at 230.

The cases recorded locally included Ho Chi Minh City (230), Phu Yen (18), Dong Nai (11), An Giang (10), Hung Yen (5), Vinh Long (2), and Ha Nam (1), with 228 detected in isolation or locked down areas.

The majority of new cases in HCM City were found within quarantine areas or are being contact traced for epidemiological investigation, while those in other localities are mostly F1 contacts with confirmed patients.

One day earlier Vietnam’s daily COVID-19 count hit all-time high at 1,102 in 23 provinces and cities, since the pandemic hit the nation early last year.

To date, the nation has logged 19,441 domestic cases, including 17,871 detected in the ongoing wave of COVID-19.

The health ministry also announced the discharge of 203 further coronavirus patients on July 5, elevating  the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 8,022.

Ho Chi Minh City remains the biggest coronavirus hotspot in the latest wave, with more than 6,900 domestic infections being registered so far.

According to the Ministry of Health said the first batch of more than 90,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will arrive at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on July 7.

The nation is negotiating for an additional 45 million doses moving forward, aiming to secure 150 million vaccine doses this year to cover 70% of the national population later this year or early next year.

Over 3.9 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to date, of which more than 226,850 have received two shots.
